Effects of Orally Administered Potassium Dichromate in Reproductive and Non-reproductive Tissues of Female Rats

ثبت نشده
چکیده

Effect of oral administration of potassium dichromate at 5 and 10 mg/ kg body weight daily for 30 days was investigated in reproductive organs and liver of adult female rats. The results revealed that in ovary, protein, cholesterol and ascorbic acid were decreased. Similarly in uterus, proteins and lipid levels were significantly declined with an increase in its glycogen levels. However, increased glycogen levels in the liver with a concomitant decline in phosphorylase indicated carbohydrate metabolic defect in these tissues as a result of chromium poisoning. This is further evidenced by a reduction in the activity of succinate dehydrogenase in the liver. Elevation in serum transaminase levels with a reduction in cholesterol also indicated the liver toxicity. Moreover, blood cell counts were also altered. These results clearly revealed the toxicity of potassium dichromate in reproductive organs and liver in female rats which may probably be due to the metal accumulation in these tissues.

Evaluation of possible toxic effects of spearmint (Mentha spicata) on the reproductive system, fertility and number of offspring in adult male rats

Objective: In this study we investigated the effects of spearmint (Mentha spicata Labiatae) on the reproductive system, fertility and number of offspring in adult male rats. Materials and Methods: Adult Wistar male rats in one control (C) and three experimental groups (I, II and III) received 0, 10, 20 and 40 mg/kg spearmint extract orally for 45 days, respectively.  Following this treatment, t...

Effects of Potassium Dichromate on Reproduction and Fertility in Albino Female Mice

The acute toxicity of hexavalent chromium as potassium dichromate (K2Cr2O7) was studied in female albino mice. Reproductive parameters in ovary and uterus and fertility rate were evaluated to investigate the possible effects of chromium intoxication. Seventy-five adult albino mice were used in this study. The mice treated orally with 500 and 1000 ppm of potassium dichromate that dissolved in tap...

P-58: Evaluation of Ovarian Toxicity Effects of Chlorpromazine in Female Rats

Background: Elevations in serum prolactin levels (hyperprolactinaemia) are a common side effect of conventional antipsychotic treatments. The main objective of this study was to consider the effects of the antipsychotic drug chlorpromazine (CPZ) in female rats reproductive system and to examine the relationship between the effects on reproductive organs and hormone concentrations. Materials and...

Hormonal and metabolic effects of polyunsaturated fatty acid (omega-3) on polycystic ovary syndrome induced rats under diet

Objective(s): PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) produces symptoms in approximately 5% to 10% of women of reproductive age (12–45 years old). It is thought to be one of the leading causes of female subfertility. This study aimed to confirm the role of nutrition containing omega-3 (polyunsaturated fatty acid) on control of experimental PCO induced by estradiol-valerat in rats. Materials and Method...
